A Day In My Life

A day in the life of Aiwen…

Live a good life meet slowly.

In the morning, a brilliant shaft of sunlight burst through the curtain.

Taking shower will soon perk me up, like a cup of coffee.

For breakfast I like to make salad that is nutritive.

Bring my camera to go out to shoot pictures.

On the road, I like to sit by the windows so that I can see the view out of the window at any time.

The sunlight is white and blinding, throwing hard-edged shadows on the house.

In the evening, I take bus to go home through the Manhattan Bridge.

In front of my house, the flowers were not in bloom when I left in the morning.

Prepare dinner, fish.

Good to eat fish, fish soup is very fresh. That shows my cooking talents, I first try to cook fish soup.Awesome!!!

Playing with my dog, his name is “Ugly”.Lol. Actually, he is cute.

A lock of hair had fallen down over my eyes. Before taking shower, I cut it.

I like my bangs that looks funny.

Doing homework, and then go to bed.

Finish a wonderful day.Good night!

Thank you.

I know that because of the COVID-19 epidemic, we have to stay in our own home. My friends often complain that staying at home every day is boring, they have not found what they love. I am glad that I have some hobbies that will make me less lonely and bored during the epidemic. And I think it’s a good time, I can do whatever I want at home, or improve myself.

Every day I spend about two-thirds of my time in bed. I often watch movies, read books, do online classes and do homework on my bed. Because I am sitting on a chair for a long time to make pictures that make my cervical spine uncomfortable, leaning on the bed makes me very relaxed.

I have practiced Chinese calligraphy. I have not practiced brush calligraphy for more than ten years.

Copying sketches, my dad often tells me that I can’t lose what I have learned before. Sometimes, I just sit and paint for 2 to 3 hours, and it takes about a week for a picture to improve

This electronic piano was my birthday gift three years ago, but I only have a little foundation. During the epidemic, I learned the piano by following the software.

Sometimes I play games with my friends. To be honest, I don’t like playing games. But during the epidemic, playing games gave me some fun.

Watching TV and eating hot pot, even if I am alone, I cannot waste my time. It is necessary to enjoy life during the epidemic.

Practicing makeup, I am basically not going out now, but makeup can make me feel better.

Taking pictures, because of the epidemic, I have no friends who can be my models or go out to take pictures in many places. Without a tripod, in order to complete the assignment, I can only take pictures of myself.

We have missed too much during this COVID-19 pandemic, spring, flowers, travel. I think if we continue to do nothing, we will miss this summer again. If we can’t go back to the beach to play and swim now, we should also find something happy or try something new. I have just moved to Staten Island for half a year, and I have never had time to decorate my yard. Taking advantage of this free time, there is a Homedeport near my house. I decided to buy some plants to plant in the yard.

Homedeport has various plants of different seasons, I can choose my favorite here.

I bought some flowers. To be honest, this is the first time I planted it. I used to do it when my mother was at home. I am a little bit excited.

When I was planting, he wanted to play with me, throwing his toys into the soil to make trouble.

Gardenia, its smell is very fragrant. I want to plant one in the yard so that I can smell it often.

This is garlic. In Chinese yards, many people like to plant vegetables so that they can be picked easily when needed. This was planted by my mother before, and I moved them to another area.

From the coronavirus epidemic to the present. I received a lot of care from my family and friends. Many people also asked me that were you afraid。 I answered that I was. Nevertheless, we must live well and enjoy life. Before,I was afraid a lot . I was afraid that I would not live long enough to live my life. All of that. But then I finally decided, being afraid all the time is not a good way to live. If something is going to happen, it is going to happen. So, whatever is going on, I choose not to be afraid. There is anything to be afraid of now.

06/05/2020,Brooklyn.I went shopping. On a road, a store was distributing relief food to people who came to collect it.

Outside Costco in Brooklyn, there was many people coming to shop, and the line went around the Costco building in a circle. The city slowly recovered from its previous busyness.

A staff member gave special customers quick access to Costco channels.

During the epidemic, many people are afraid to go to work. In this crowded supermarket, every staff member is worthy of respect.

Masks and gloves almost became a necessity when we were outside. We need there things everywhere to keep us safe.

After shopping, I made some barbecue.

Delicious lobster. We should enjoy life and food.

When I was doing the barbecue, his mouth watered. That’s so funny.

The epidemic situation has not decreased, but compared to the beginning, we seem to be less afraid. As summer approaches, I heard that some parks and beaches are open. My parents are both in China, where the epidemic has stabilized. My mother often calls me to not go out. I do not want  her to worry too much, so I used to take a walk in the yard and play with a dog and a cat except once I went to the nearby post office to pick up a package.

After the pandemic began, there were such prompts in many places, in different languages.

In the post office, the staff used colored tape to stick to the ground as an isolation to remind people to keep a safe distance.

In an elementary school near my home, there is no one on the entire campus. This time should have been the time for students to attend classes and play in the school. Due to the epidemic, all schools were closed.

His name is “Ugly” , because I live alone, no one talks to me, and I am afraid to go out. He became my best partner,LOL.

The kitten who lives in my yard has no name.I am not always see her.

The pandemic began in spring. Because I didn’t go out for a long time, I suddenly saw the little girl who is my neighbor playing with water in the yard . It was a beautiful scene. I was very happy. Summer is here, I hope everything does not have to wait too long.

My classmates both had very good ideas for their projects, and I have learned something new from their projects. If it is my project, I will use Photoshop to do more color conversion on the one same picture, and then put the original picture and the edited pictures back together to make a comparison. Secondly, give an example after classifying the edited pictures, and combining life and art as an explanation.

In such a tense moment, going out to buy food has become an adventure, and the only reason for me to go out of the house.

The bus drove from Staten Island to Brooklyn, there was not a lot people. The driver could not open the front dood to allow customers who all used back door, and locked the road to the front space with a chain.

In the prosperous New York, almost every place is staged empty city plan.

All open restaurants can only take out service.

On the street, almost everyone wears a mask.

Outside the supermarket, a worker disinfected all surfaces and items that have been in contact.

During the epidemic, many supermarkets were opening. Staffs wear protective clothing, protective masks, masks.

Used masks and gloves must be thrown into the designated trash.

4/24/2020, the food is almost gone. I have to go to the supermarket. I felt like an adventure. My friend told me that someone was infected when they went out to the supermarket.I do not have choice. I wore a mask and gloves, just in case. I went to two supermarkets, the Chinese supermarket in New Jersey. Everyone had to take pictures when entering the supermarket and limited the number of people entering. At Costco on Staten Island, there were fewer people than before. The staff used wooden boxes to divide the team into three lines and explained the precautions. This made me feel the danger of the epidemic again.

Waiting for a real spring

Spring has arrived, but it is very different from the past. 4/17/2020, this was my first time to go out after the COVID-19 virus began to spread in New York. I just planned to walk around the house. I live in Staten Island. According to current government statistics, Staten Island accounted for 7% of the city ’s diagnosed population, and the population here only accounts for 5.7% of the city ’s total population. The weather was very good and there were basically no people on the road. Compared with other places in New York, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens were more quiet. Every day we see all kinds of news about the epidemic, and we staying at home are also extremely afraid of the infection rate of this virus. When I walked to a block, a driver was waiting for a traffic light. He saw that I was shooting ,and expressed interest in photography. He wanted me to take a picture of him, and I agreed. He happily gestured and hoped that I could send him the photo. I dare not be close, so we talked across the road.We do not know when to start normal social activities and learning, but we can only stay at home now to ensure our safety.

People Under the Pandemic

by Aiwen Tai

In early 2020, the first case of COVID-19 virus from China began to spread throughout the world. I fled from China to New York, and surprisingly had to experience the fear and inconvenience of the epidemic a second time. On March 11’th it was declared a pandemic by the WHO. We never imagined that the virus spread so quickly. In just a few weeks from the first case in New York that occurred half a month ago, New York became the most severely affected area. Tens of thousands of people were infected on a day to day basis. Already thousands of people have died, and there are still undiagnosed cases that remain hidden dangers. This major pandemic has caused huge losses to the world and people, including life, health, freedom and art.

In order to control the pandemic, the country had to make the choice to reduce social activities, which meant restricting our lives. This was not only historically significant, but also a huge change to the norms of the everyday people. As ordinary people, we could only stay in our homes to save ourselves, in order to not cause trouble for others who are fighting on the frontlines. Being in quarantine, means restrictions to the activities that we love, which includes outdoor photography. This could impact our mental health and I want to investigate this.

I want to take my personal case as an example to record my life status in a “cage”. I will question how my life has changed, how I and the people around me worry about the psychological activities, how we are spending our time in the absence of outdoor activities and entertainment. I will also look into the environmental changes and impacts in my city. After watching this recording, I hope to create a relatable experience to those who are also impacted by this pandemic. I will create a memory that will be an important fragment in people’s lives.

In terms of equipment, I will use the GoPro small video camera and DSLR digital camera SONY A7 3 to shoot the content, and later use PHOTOSHOP and iMove to edit. Use color to make a clear contrast between the time period before and after the outbreak Change in the environment.
